May full moon-- flower moon or corn planting moon

May 5th was what some call the super full moon for 2012 because the moon is closest to the earth for this year. It was naturally something we could not miss the opportunity to photograph from our Tucson home-- both in the evening as it rose and again in the morning as it set. Absolutely gorgeous.

I wanted one with the moon, cactus and ironwood. I think you'll have to enlarge it though to see them all.

Due to haze in the air, the moon was as yellow as it appears and near the horizon, just as large.

Due to cloud cover I did not get to see it until this morning when I woke for some reason at 4:00. I took a few photos, too lazy to drag out the tripod, so perhaps not good enough to post. But I did enjoy bathing in it vanilla light.

It was huge and beautiful in Walla Walla too. Even the days right before its peak were spectacular. What a great spot you were in to see it. Enjoyed your pictures.

Beautiful job of photography. I was not able to get a good shot, but it was very bright in Seattle.

The hard thing with good moon shots is to have something else in the photo with the moon. It was a large moon, as they said, but getting anything close enough to put it in perspective, that's the tricky part. The moon up in the sky is always impressive and we've photographed just that many times but in many ways, that never changes. What changes is what it can be framed with which can be clouds also but something. I've done it down here quite a few times but this time all were from this house.

One of our neat experiences photographing it was when we went out to a nearby Hozho ruin and one of our big failures was when we went out to a nearby Hozho ruin. We didn't have the memory card in the camera... We've also been hiking the trails up there when it was full and gotten good photos against the mountain backdrop, but this is rattlesnake season and walking back to the car after the sun has set, when it's dark, that didn't appeal to either of us this trip. Beautiful thing to do though.
