Obama never said he could do it alone

"taking a deep breath to try not to erupt*

By now, anybody who pays attention to politics knows that House Republicans unanimously voted against Obama's stimulus package even though he tried to put in things they wanted, even though he watered down the bill to get bipartisan support. Why did this happen?

Republican Congressmen were evidently following their guru, who speaks for many ordinary, free-thinking, ditto-heads, who Rush Limbaugh says he tells them everything they need to know. Do those two things go against logic-- free-thinking and ditto-head? To me, lack of logic pretty well sums up what most Congressional Republicans have done the last eight years. Logic isn't part of their agenda-- where it comes to wars or economics. It is all about political parties.

Thursday Rush presented his idea for a stimulus package-- big cuts in capital gains taxes. At first that might seem pointless after all who is making profits in business investments right now? It is not about who is. It is about who will be.

The stock market has crashed and that means many ordinary people pulled out whatever was left of their investments and are currently sitting on their cash with no idea what will secure their retirements. Those ordinary people are not why Rush wants a cut in capital gains.

His cut is for people like him, the million- and billionaires who also are out of the market and waiting. Waiting for what you ask? Waiting for the prices to go down far enough for them to snap up the bargains. What will those bargains lead to? Capital gains!

The pressure that capital gains taxes be cut is not for the little people worried about their retirement. This man of the people, who spouts his venom five days a week, who lives a life of luxury that few can imagine, he is not concerned for them. He already said he hopes Obama fails. What does it mean to the Limbaughs if he does-- more money as frightened people turn to him to find answers.

Limbaugh's suggested cuts are for the wealthy like himself, maybe about trickle-down. It is for those, who when they jump back into the market, will take away any chance average people have to retire with any investment income. It is so those who make those profits don't have to pay taxes on their coup. How do people like that live with themselves? Do they kid themselves as well as their followers?

Limbaugh is the spokesman for much of the right. He has the Republican politicians so scared of those free thinkers, who spew out insults and threats to anyone who dares come down on Limbaugh, that they won't speak up even if they know he's wrong.

Along with many Democrats, I really did hope Republicans had learned from this last election. I hoped they had seen the greed of Wall Street. I hoped they were going to go back to their conservative roots. I hoped they saw the loss we have had with a war in Iraq, how fighting a war for no reason, fighting it on the cuff, was wrong; but that apparently is not what has happened.

They instead blame it all on the poor or the illegals. They blame anyone except those from whom this has actually come. Yes, I knew Republican politicians had supported Bush in everything he wanted, but I thought that day was over. I mean surely they could see the huge mistakes he made? If they can, they are too afraid to speak up.

The answer now for us, if we are citizens who disagree, is to make our voices heard-- politely. If we want more benefits to the middle class, we have to let that be known. If we want infrastructure investments, we better tell our Congressmen. Whatever we want done, whatever we believe should happen next, speak out because the other side is.

During the campaign, I said if Obama won, it would not be the end but the beginning of a struggle between two diametrically opposed viewpoints. It is going to take Americans speaking out to get through to politicians who are totally selfish and see only their own profit. If you aren't one of those ditto-heads, if you are worried about the economy, believe we need change, then read up on what these packages are about and speak your mind for what you believe should be done. If you don't speak out, there won't be any change because Obama never said he could do it alone.

This blog comes compliments of a conversation with Farm Boss after he got home Thursday night. The longer I listened to what he was hearing and thinking, the madder I got.

They did, rain.

I am not happy with either party right now; just so I make myself clear. The democrats were disappointing before and more so now. Both parties are only in it for themselves with no concern for what is best for America. I wanted infrastructure and I get STD research? If Obama thinks the left is his friend, he's about to find out otherwise. I am not sure there are any friends there that trump self-interest. That's why Americans need to make their voices heard. If you agree with the right, fine, let them know but whatever you think, put it out as those people in Washington don't care about the average person from what I can tell-- at all

Come on Rain you not being fair here. The so called stimulus package has so much pork in it that it makes me sick. At least half of it is just BS spending. They sold it as infrastructure but in reality it looks like about 5% of it will be infrastructure. The rest is new feel good programs and payoffs to liberal special interests.

And there may not have been any bipartisan support for the bill after the republicans were ignored on what they wanted, but there was bipartisan opposition to it as some Democrats voted against it because their constituents told them if they voted for it they would be replaced next year.

Very motivational. Thank you I appreciate your continued involvement.

I already said I don't like what the democrats did either. But Limbaugh's plan to have half of it with tax cuts is more what got us where we are. Tax cuts to the wealthiest. My point is notify your congressmen what you believe-- whatever it is. This is no time to sit back. Congress is oriented to the loudest. That better be the American people! There is no way I can believe tax cuts will solve our current problem. We do need infrastructure spending and I agree the dems didn't come through. Obama has as much of a problem with them as the Republicans if he wants to do what he said in the campaign. Nancy Pelosi makes me sick. How do we end up with the worst of the worse at the head of these parties? And I mean that with Boehner too. It's all about themselves and never about the ordinary citizens. You won't like this but what we need is improved unionization where Americans stand together for middle class jobs. yes, I know unions abused their power but the concept is the only one that gives the middle class a voice. Otherwise we get shoved aside by the rich and the poor

Just to make sure my point is not missed in my rant *s* Whatever your viewpoint, right or left, this is the time to speak up to Congress. They hope you aren't paying attention, that you are staying ignorant. Once this is done, it's done. Citizens need to be active right now if they care at all!

For those of you willing to write to your Congressmen, you can find their email addys online. Type in their name and ideally title and you will find a contact address.

I wrote to mine telling them I wanted more infrastructure and less pork. I don't know if it will change any minds, but not writing at all won't help!

"Rush Limbaugh is a putz..."
Brilliant.
Refresh my memory please.
I believe I was told this man would unite the Nation. How is this attack on Rush Limbaugh, or for that matter, Rain's attack on Republicans, uniting the Nation?
Rather than listening and trying to understand the legitimate concerns of others, this all sounds like "I'll just take my football and go home!" to me.

Spoiled, government-dependent brats.

I think there has to be real disagreement and expression of it but without calling someone say-- deranged... I do dislike Limbaugh and listened to him for many years; so know how he operates. If you agree with him, he's fun to listen to; but have you ever noticed that he controls what kind of lefties get on there and they are never articulate and able to argue their case effectively. It's not because none exist it's for the entertainment aspect and he is only there to make his points. He is honest about that but many people think they hear real debates. They don't

I quit listening to him when he carried water for the Bushies no matter what they did. If two weeks earlier he said something wasn't wise and they then did it, he would shift to defend it. He wasn't worth listening to anymore and he'd probably drive me to be 'deranged' if I listened to him now-- and life is far too sweet to let that happen!

Obama has been in office for what 10 days now. Were you righties expecting an instant parting of the Red Seas? We lefties were not.

Given that, I am not happy with the stimulus package as the dems turned it out and have written my senators to say exactly that. I don't want my democratic senators to vote in lock step with Obama. I want them to do what is best for the country.

And please consider going onto the next blog on Creature of Jekyll Island and take some time to listen to the audio. There is a longer one available online from '94 and then updated versions. It's amazing how what he said in 1994 is so right on for today. So the question will be what will help? Republicans didn't and if you paid any attention to Palin, you know she wouldn't (other than add some beauty to the White House); so what will help now?

If you listen to the audio, you will know it's not sitting on our hands which is what the republicans want. It's not tax reductions to the richest who already are walking away with the store. But the question is what can average, working class people do to fix this or is it too late?

And I do have some more 'positive' blogs coming on validation, and getting our dreams, Tarot, some books and movies that fit with that theme, but they will never get the readership that this kind gets. Strange, isn't it? *s*

One more point on Rush. He's not a widely educated man but one who promotes an ideology that many people want to hear. He favored war when he didn't have to fight it as many did in that last administration. He says whatever gets his audience fired up. Who knows what he believes personally? I have no respect for him but once in awhile I can enjoy listening to him-- when he talks about values, about working for what we want, about life and stays away from partisan politics. I thought he was totally wrong on that capital gains reduction right now. I don't know what is going to help though. It is possible we should not have done the prior bail out (I wrote that when it was being debated) or this stimulus and just accepted a lot of failures and worse depression. I sure don't like the federal government totaling up the kind of debt where half of every tax dollar is soon going to go to pay someone else interest. That cannot be good. We are heading toward being a very different kind of nation if something doesn't change.

So rain, please answer my initial question...
And by the way, you are a damned good "water carrier" yourself, gal.
Love ya.
Mean it!
;>)

I was in agreement with you. Attacks don't unite anybody and you should have seen what I wrote before I toned it down *s* It takes taking deep breaths, settling back, and trying to see that there can be differences of opinion but they don't have to become attacks. It's not easy for any of us. We get mad, spout off and it doesn't help to work out real solutions.

As for how Obama will do on this, he hasn't been in long enough to know. He is trying to meet with the opposition on a social level and that helps...

and thank you *s*

A quick in and out comment of the waining days of Bush ... You mentioned the mistakes he made ... Well it is becoming more and more evident that the biggest mistake that he made was not know what the enemy of the people was doing. Selfish and haughty as they were. The enemy? our own encumbent politicians!
