Personalizing Calendars

Each of us have our individual rituals throughout the year that add meaning to our days and acknowledge the changes that are part of living. Some of enjoying life fully is recognizing such moments and savoring them.

For me, one of these times is finding new calendars. Sometimes I feel a little sad to let one go that was especially enjoyable for the previous year, but there is always my feeling the new one will be providing different inspirations. It feels so clean to tack up January with no notations on the days-- a year ahead with who knows what lying in store.

Each month, as it changes over to a new picture, is somewhat the same. If I don't like that particular image-- or month-- I know it's not going to last forever.

Generally I begin to look for a calendar sometime in October, but this year I was in no mood for it. I glanced at a few when in stores but didn't actually buy Wolves until the last week of '06.

In her blog, Sacred Ordinary , Fran wrote 'Making a Soul Collage Calendar' about using her soul cards as inspiration for creating her own 2007 calendar, which I thought sounded like a terrific idea. One year I received a calendar made by a family member using the previous year's photos. I enjoyed the personal nature of it all year. One of the great things about the computer is all the ways it can be used.

Last year I had read about a group of Montana women who, inspired by others who had done the same thing, were selling a fund raising calendar. 'I See By Your Outfit' benefited their local performing arts center. I loved their concept of wild women and enjoyed the humor of that calendar all year.

Maybe next year I'll make my own wild woman calendar... or maybe not.

I love calendars and as a result, have many. From wall calendars to desk calendars to the Dayrunner I carry in my handbag.
I received an especially special one this year from a blogging friend. A personal one that she made and I'll really treasure it all year...not to mention, think of her all 365 days.
Are you familiar with the We'Moon calendars? I got one last year and have a 2007 one hanging here in my studio....it's chock full of info and the pictures are awesome. In case you're interested the site is http://www.wemoon.ws
And Francophile that I am...I have a lovely one of Paris.

I like calendars and spend a lot of time hunting for a new one each year. We're always given several - but the one I write all over, has to be special. I know I'm probably more than a little strange about calendars. I not only keep track of birthdays, but 'first snow', 'first tulip', dates of my parents/grandparents deaths, etc. etc. etc. And if I don't write EVERY SINGLE APPT. I make - I'll never remember it. (The calendar looks pretty bad by the end of the year, but I save them as a record, and have needed it sometimes!)

I save my old calendars and plan to use all the cool pics of animals and flowers for a collage. I love the idea of a Wild Women calendar. How about Wild Women Who Blog...

I love that idea-- wild women who blog. Catchy title and it'd be a lot of fun if a person could think of the right fund raising goal... There are sure enough interesting women out there in the blog world... but how many are willing to pose semi-nude? lol

LOLOL Uh----Not me. I would take three months to fit it all in!

I order either an Audubon or a SIerra Club Engagement book every year, and that is the one that I keep. It cronicles by the week, and the pictures are beautiful.

I also write EVERYTHING down, who xcame over, the temp, the weather, what I ate,,,yadayada. I also have one hanging on my computer, and another one on the fridge! I would forget my own birthday otherwise.

I need a calendar that has a block for each day that is big enough to write things in. I subscribe to Nikon magazine (a camera related one) and they make up one each year to send to their subscribers that has fantastic photos. I've often thought it would be fun to make up one of my own some day. Maybe. But it wouldn't have wild women. Probably not.

You always come up with great ideas Rain. I like calenders with cool photos like Hawaii or cool places I have been or want to go, but lately the most important calender for me has been the one in my cell phone. I use it like a palm pilot if I lost it I would be lost.
