Something important to read

I don't like getting mad but sometimes that's the only way to feel. Read this and see how it impacts you: First Draft by Kathy Rhodes.

Most of us try, as Americans, to be responsible, fair, and yet we see again and again how the system is set up to ignore us. *taking deep breaths to get over being mad* This information deserves to be passed on as a warning to us all of something for which to watch especially if we have elderly parents. I remember well how my mom got upset over things like this and can totally sympathize with Rhodes' situation in trying to deal with it and finding the system supposedly for people is really not.

Which is exactly why Medicare part D was a total sham. Idiocy. We need to fix this. She needs to work with her congress critters and get this fixed. I hope she can get over her anger and do so. Sigh.

I would suggest she get in touch with a senior or patient advocacy group in her area.

Trust me when I tell you they really are out to get us. I'm going through hell right now with the system and it's insane.

I have an idea, let's have government funded health care for everyone so we all can enjoy this kind of customer service.

Now that I have that out of the way. This is typical of how all billings can happen under Medicare. My grandmother received a bill from a doctor that had not even seen her. When my aunt tried to call Medicare to tell them they were being defrauded by the doctor they acted like she made a mistake not the doctors office.

And trying not to throw too much gas on the fire here, but when Medicare part D started there were ads on the radio every hour that said if you do not pick a plan by a a certain date, then one will be chosen for you. Yes it sucks and was not handled well but there is a little responsibility on the person that is receiving government assistance.

I agree with what you all said. Our system doesn't do well and it's not just the government. Dealing with a business can be frustrating also; but the government doesn't have an obligation to meet the needs of the people (which is what they imply they are doing) but rather to tell them what has to be done. In the case of Medicare, they assume they are right and the elder wrong. It is very frustrating and adding all of health care won't make it run more smoothly. On the other hand, the current health care system isn't good either; so what is the solution? Insurance is not aimed at helping us but in making money for somebody and often a LOT of money.

We need some kind of insurance plan sponsored by the government with small deductibles and co-pays for the percentage of people that do not have private insurance. We should not all be forced into the same plan. I think if the government can require us to buy car insurance why can't they require us to buy health insurance. I pay a lot of money each month to have a pretty good plan. There are better plans out there and there are cheaper plans out there, but going without is not something that I would do again. Not when you can run up $50,000 worth of bills in a short time at a hospital.
