Interesting article. Rich has it correct, Washington is out of touch with the real problems and does not seem to care. The only employer in the country that does not seem to be laying off people this year is the Federal Government since they have a printing press that prints money to pay employees. The number of Federal employees that make over $150K has risen 119% in the last 2 years. As for frequent flyer status, when I went back east last week the San Fran to DC flight had 47 hundred thousand mile flyers on it. So it seems Washington is doing just fine while the serfs outside the beltway are suffering.
Here's the thing. What can we do about it? Do you think either party would change anything? It seems to me that though their political beliefs are all wrong in my eyes, the tea baggers have a point in that it is going to take Americans rising up. Being passive will get us more of the same. I am very disillusioned with the whole political system. The Republicans protect the lobbying system and that scares the Democrats (or they use them for cover) but with lobbying as it is-- 6 for every congressmen and that doesn't count them all. Daschle works for such a firm but because he doesn't lobby directly, he doesn't have to register. It's a huge business and they impact everything Washington does-- on both sides of the aisle.
You have that right. Neither side wants to do anything that reduces the flow of money into their pockets. I do not know what we can really do. 92% of Americans disapprove of the job that Congress is doing, but they only want the other Congressmen to be voted out, they keep voting for their own representative to keep bringing home the pork. We have the same situation here in Cali. They have gerrymandered the districts so nearly everyone has a "safe" district so we just keep getting more of the same. We need to go down to the capital and drag them all out into the street and tell them they are fired.
