The only disappointing aspect was the starfish were gone from the tidal pools. We've read how a disease has killed them off all along the coastline of western North America. The belief is this is due to a warming ocean where diseases pose new risks to the creatures depending on the seas. The starfish at the cove were colorful and wonderful to photograph. I hope they make a comeback.

That coastline is very dramatic. Yes, I have read that the melting of the permafrost in other areas is also releasing new diseases that have long been dormant. Oh well. It is what it is.
Most of it we couldn't have changed anyway as it's the way of the earth-- cycles. It doesn't mean we shouldn't have done what would be better anyway for the land around us.
Friends are off to Ft Bragg, coast this weekend... and relatives are on the Oregon coast for a short vacation. My time to get over there will come.

We are only 50 driving miles and 30 across the hills but we don't get there nearly often enough. It is so restoring.
Striking ocean photos. Glad you could enjoy being with your friends. Wish more of mine lived closer or were even still living, so make the most of any opportunities to be together. The years go faster or change more quickly than we can imagine.
Interesting how we often drive long distances for other sights and forego those nearby, probably for that reason because we think we can always go there. At least that's what my husband and I discovered after we moved west, then thought of all the nearby places around the Great Lakes we had bypassed for more distant visits for that very reason. There weren't many places we missed in Ariz. the years we lived there, but when we would mention where we'd been, locals would often say they'd never been there.
My husband's parents who lived into their 90s said that about their friends and the hard part of living to be that old.
We go through spells where we get to the beach more often, but this year we slowed down on a lot of what we used to do, for assorted reasons. I am not fond of the drive, even though it's only 50 miles, it's been on a road with a lot of dumb drivers. They widened part of it finally and that made it nicer this time. It also, like California in that, has places where the road gives way due to heavy rainfall. I am high strung at the best of times lol but driving somewhere makes it worse
I hadn't heard that about the starfish. I am going to start the rumor that it is from Fukushima.
Ingineer, Fukushima did happen in spring of 2011. Scientists say they haven't found the chemical to indicate it'd be it-- but might it have contributed to the warming of the ocean...
