When we lived in Seattle we used to use the grass clippings for mulch under our rhodies. We were going to turn it over to break it down more quickly until we discovered bumblebees had made a nest in it, right next to our front porch. We left them in peace and watched them come and go. They moved on after winter as is their habit it turns out.

i never knew until last year that they live in the ground. I just wish we saw the honeybees we used to see. I am watching for them though. Out here it's only wild ones and they tend to lose some of their hollow log hives over hard winters.
