A Winter Surf
Oregonians love their beaches during the winter. Where in summer, beach towns might be crowded with people from all over, in the winter, it's mostly natives who go to see the surf at its most spectacular. It's easy to get motels and the roads aren't particularly crowded.
Sunday was one of those perfect days with the weather changing constantly from sunshine to rainstorms with snowflakes mixed in.
Don't like the weather for photos? Wait five minutes. The breakers were huge and surged ashore with that power only the ocean has. It was particularly nice to not have it be windy. It was cold though but that didn't keep people inside their cars.

Again, nice pics Rain !
Beautiful Rain----reminds me of the area where Jane Hampsher used to live.
We love the beach as well.. visiting, not living there. Nancy lived in Newport for a year with her first husband and could almost not stand it. We have two retired friends who retired at the coast, both have since sold their homes and moved inland. The idea is wonderful and your pictures totally beautiful, but after a while, my wife and I begin longing for some dry sun.
I have a friend who loves living at the beach (Cannon Beach), but I have never thought I could either. The estuaries would be better though as you get more sunlight just a bit inland
Your photos are marvelous!
I would love to live closer to, but not on, big water. I grew up close to it and still miss it.
I know what you mean about our Oregon beaches. What's wonderful about here is that the beach, the mountains, and high dessert are all within 1-2 hours. It's marvelous that even on such a blustery day there is beauty to be found.
Our goal is to make it permanently to the beach by retirement, in the mean time we get there a half dozen times a year. Thanks for sharing your day at the beach, and I enjoy your art on rainy day things.
Gorgeous, Rain, and that reminds me that I'm about half way through Wild Life by Molly Gloss. What an interesting book. Thanks for recommending it.
I live at the beach, and I'm afraid I take it for granted sometimes. Your beaches are wilder than So Cal beaches.
I like looking for seashells on the beach...:-)
Lovely photos, as usual, Rain. The one of the flying bird (Gull?) is spectacular and the blue sky in the corner of the last one speaks of hope to me.
Beautiful photos, rain.
Rain--Gorgeous scenery, wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing.
