Revolution in what country?

Coming home from town on Friday, we turned on Ed Schultz midway into his radio talk program. It was like coming into a conversation midway without the ability to ask what's that again? Chuck Norris. Guns. Nobody's taking mine. Nobody wants to take yours. Secession. HUH!

Well little by little it made sense; and when I got home I looked online to see that Chuck Norris has been on Fox (of course) talking about Texas seceding from the United States. Chuck Norris talks Secession. Evidently Norris said he was kind of kidding but he added that there are many cell groups across this country ready for such an operation. Norris's Nutty War on President Obama. Norris said he is willing to be president of Texas.

One of the callers told Schultz that he knew some people in California (the red part of the state) who are getting together guns and preparing themselves to rise up and take over the country. To have any hope of doing more than strewing death and destruction, they would have to get the military to go along, in other words a military coup. Are they hoping to enhance their chances by having Blackwater, now calling themselves Xe (who knows why), the largest private military in this country, joining the effort? Would these people actually fire on their own military if the military didn't agree with their coup attempt?

There is also an attempt being made to get on the California ballot in 2012 a division into two states. Not north and south but left and right-- literally; but that one is legal at least.

It's not like such ideas are new; but when talk of secession and revolution comes from groups who used to talk so much about patriotism, it makes you wonder if words have any meaning. A flag pin was so important during the campaign, but now the flag is something to be thrown aside because someone didn't win at the ballot box?

There are even bumper stickers saying they didn't vote for change and so they don't want to pay taxes for it. Excuse me but did anybody ask if I'd like to not pay for the war since I didn't vote for that? Back then it was all about being patriotic. Now that word has evidently gone out of flavor. I will be interested in seeing what Mike Huckabee has to say about Norris's latest spiel.

Do you think such talk is meaningless? What about when Glenn Beck on his program said he had sympathy with the man who murdered his family and assorted strangers in Alabama. Why sympathy? Well because it's just so darned frustrating these days according to Beck. People feel powerless therefore murdering their family members made perfect sense. Glenn Beck wonderes if political correctedness leads to spree killings. Why is this guy on any major cable station???

I'd take this less seriously if there hadn't always been these militia groups spread around the country.Timothy McVie was in one that inspired him to bomb the federal building in Oklahoma City.

Regarding militias, I had done some research on this before-- at one time found a map of where they were. They are in every state with Michigan having the most or did last I saw. Some of them train together in war games. They are probably the leading ones buying and worrying about the right to own assault rifles.

What are their goals? Establish christianism as the official religion of the land probably for a start. Put their own leadership in place-- once they decide who that is. Voting would be finished as how can you have an election when you don't care who wins it?

For those who don't like Obama, they might consider this all good news, but tell me what happens when chaos replaces government in any land? My best guess is the meanest, strongest person arises to take over as dictator, to lay down a new system of power. Could that happen here? It seems unlikely but then again...

And-- is Chuck Norris out of his ever loving mind to encourage such thinking? Our whole system has been built around voting to establish leadership. It's what we claim we wanted for Iraq. And now the ones who probably favored that war would stand against it in their own nation? Is this a crazy world or what!

Some people are saying they are going to pull a John Galt...Texas was once an independent country by the way...

I am sure they would want to do that, of course, that's as fictional as Shangri-la. Those things sound wonderful in the abstract and then you bring real people into them and it doesn't work. The rich blame the poor right now but it's the rich who got a lot of their wealth out first and did it before the Great Depression also.

If Texas was allowed to secede, unlikely given oil is supposedly why we went to war in Iraq, then the nation will split apart just as that Russian predicted. The NW has talked of wanting to be its own nation also. Once you let one go, the whole thing blows up which is what the Civil War was fought over-- not slavery as some like to think.

Ayn Rand wrote a good book on philosophy also if you have seen it. Philosophy Who Needs It! I highlighted it heavily but back in my fundamentalist (not political fundamentalist but Biblical) Christian days. I wonder how I would see it today.

I guess there will always be nutcases as long as there are humans. What are they thinking? Of course they are not thinking; just reacting out of the own misguided ideologies. I doubt if they could come up with a coherent plan among the entire group. Just let their assault weapons speak for them. They are a scary bunch.

I think the term for this sort if thing is "balkanization" which is what happened when the Austro-Hungarian empire was broken up and yeah, it's nuts. I'd hate to see it happen. Have we lost our collective mind? In my over 60 years, I've never seen such an awful backlash after an election. It feels childish and immature: "I didn't win so I'll take my toys and go home."

Sigh. I wish I had an answer other than "Grow up!"

For decades we have lived in a neighborhood with NRA right wing Christians who say they will defend their right to form a citizen posse to protect their women. I am not comfortable defending Obama and the recovery to them.
I doubt that advetisements will change them. So now my paintings are not so much out there to make money but instead I am working at finding common grounds such as celebrating volunteer work that they are close to. I think they might come around if their self-esteem is fortified. Kind of a far out approach but I haven't thought of anything better

Perhaps all you leftists shoulda "grown up" when Bush was president as well....
I can't blame those who are sick and tired of the filth and sickness that pervades the leftist ideology...criminals have more rights than their victims, teaching that queerdom is O.K. and "normal" to our kids in the public schools, tax, tax, and more tax of anything that moves, opening dialougue with terrorists who will use this appeasement to reload and rearm and attack us again on a larger scale than 9/11.

It has been interesting to see the result from the far right after this election didn't go their way. Now when the Democrats had that happen in 2000 (won majority by millions and lost on fraud in Florida and a Supreme Court decision) they set about winning a true majority that could not be overturned by a court. Democrats believed in democracy obviously.

A lot of us believed that the tactics used by the far right were fascist (look it up if you don't know what that means), but what we didn't know until after this election was that some part of the right, not sure how much, doesn't believe in democracy and wants a dicatorship. The ordinary people don't know how to vote wisely; so this group must appoint their own leaders to do things as they believe they should be done according to their fascist beliefs. The end result of that was in history leaders like Hitler. Who knows how far that element of the right would take it now but sounds like the left should be also playing war games because we as much believe in what this country has stood for as the right once claimed. We will fight for it if that is what is required.

I still believe the majority here believe in democracy and understand that when you lose, you try harder to convince people your way was right, not that you think you should start shooting up malls or your grandparents.

Knowing it will do absolutely no good I still feel compelled to respond to Sara. She should read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights before making such outrageous claims that criminals have more rights than their victims. Sometimes justice does not triumph, but that doesn't mean that liberals were to blame.

Schools do not teach that homosexuality is okay. However, anyone who uses the term "queerdom" shows their bigotry and lack of knowledge regarding gays. It is not a sin (as the Saras of the world believe), but an aberration at birth that the gays cannot help any more than Sara can help being heterosexual. How about a little compassion, Sara?

I could write a treatise on how diplomacy (talking to our enemies) has done more to stop wars and solved more problems than invading a sovereign nation and why her premise is wrong, but there isn't space to confuse her further with facts.

Some Vermonters want to secede and the League of the South might view secession in a favorable light. The thing is that what brought us together could tear us apart. It's not beyong the realm of possibility though it is (at the moment) unlikely.

Darlene,
The word "gay" means "happy", which most queers aren't. I wish they would stop using a word that does not apply to them. Queers are tortured souls. SOME are born with opposite-sex tendencies, but most are very confused and as I said, tortured. No other animal species in the world is queer.
Why don't YOU have some compassion for conservatives and those who disagree with you?
Diplomacy only DELAYS war...and in most cases, allows the enemy more time to reload, rearm and strike at THEIR convenience. Like talkin' to that rattlesnake....who was that diplomacy-minded guy in WWII? Some guy named Neville?
You NEVER talk to a sworn enemy who threatens to destroy Israel.

I thank Sara for responding. It is healing to have dialog. It is also healing to make creative expression throfugh the arts. I am just now watching a Netflix documentary called Tango, Our Dance by the Argentine filmaker Jorge Zanada. Argentina had a revolution and their national dance was band in 1955. People were killed for dancing and the dance has almost died. The Tango is more than a dance. Zanada implies that the folk art of Tango is in the feet and soul of his people whenther they love or hate the Tango. Tango's origin was from the poor European settlers and the birth place was in the brothels of Buenos Aires. It was the expression of sad yearnigs. The woman's resistance and being swayed to a willingness to be dominated. In our times today the Tango is the artistic expression of the everyday worker as well as the choreographed stories for the entertainment stage. The Tango is pshychiatric therapy for some who have difficulty restraining their anger. It is also an artistic expression that gives pride to a nation now bringing together people of all cultural classes in Argentina and the world.
So we in the united States might well express ourselves in Dance and the arts to heal our polarized people.

Roger, you need to get your own blog. Mine doesn't publish garbage or crude comments. It's obvious you don't actually know any liberals and are going purely by Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh and email jokes.

Sara, animals can sexually be attracted and prefer their own sex, as you would know if you raised them or were around them. It's a natural thing in nature, and the problem we have is not that it's abnormal but our reaction to something that is normal. When the day comes that we see it that way, there will be nothing sad about being born however one is born. If you have known people who are gay, you will know they are as happy as anybody-- which means good days and bad days, good relationships and bad ones.

I know some caring neighbors who feel as Sara who find Gays queer, are angered about paying taxes to give handouts to the poorer, fear public education will teach their children the wrong values, and fear giving diplomatic approaches a chance. They just don't see that our president has a sensibility which could win the sympathetic favor of their population as a whole. There is no winning. I can not speak to these neighbors who have very different opinions. What I plan to do is invite them to see my South American slides and and show them movies abofut Argentina's story. Maybe they will see how Argentina is ahead of us in tolerance learned through their revolution.

Gee, I've just been thinking how much this country and the world is still in need of acceptance and tolerance.

Yep, we need more tolerance of the conservative point of view!
Works both ways, dontcha know?

Most sadly,it IS these people who know the LEAST about what's happening in the world or here for that matter. They CONTINUE to feed on Limbaugh, FOX, Beck, and "believe" they know something. THEY ARE usually the same religious believers that follow a cult into the burning building. They are Frightening people. They learned NOTHING living with Bush for 8 years. Although the LAST of what they have was being stripped away, sadly they still believe Bill O'Reilly's insane screaming. THANKS for a beautiuflly written and provoking article.
