August
As I've been mentioning, it's hard to write here with a lot going on that I don't write about and with my time at the keyboard concentrating on fixing the things that were wrong with my earlier manuscript wantabes, which sometimes is very little and sometimes requires major revisions. I feel divided in a lot of directions and it won't get easier fast given a busy week ahead.
I did find the dress that will work for my 50th high school reunion as well as something that I think will work for me to wear to Farm Boss'. I learned something about my taste in clothing which I hadn't thought about before. I like to have me wear my clothes, not my clothes wear me. I don't like showy dresses or tops or anything that makes the dress show up first. I like understated clothes but want them to fit well. Since I have a more than ample chest size, if I don't pick tops and dresses that come in, I look like I am filling out the whole thing. So drape or fit is the ticket. I also hope not to go shopping again for another six months. Oh wait, I will be going next week with my granddaughter as we take her on a shopping binge when she is here for her coming birthday presents.
Nothing more has been going wrong with the farm. The irrigation is in full swing and that's good exercise which will be made easier next week with the two older grandkids here. They like doing it-- for now.
Our August has been quite nice for weather. Warm, gray, almost beach mornings with sunny afternoons, not too hot. We are lucky for the weather. Soon we will be selling lambs and shipping out some cattle but for the next week it will all be grandkid time again.
Oh and politics. I swear I get more frustrated by the day with that but I will save those rants for Rainy Day Things!

Glad things are settling down on the farm. Isn't it funny how personal our choices in clothing are? You will, undoubtedly, look fabulous in what you've found.
What kind of berries are int he photo?

I'm think your taste in clothes is good and am sure you'll wow them at the reunions. I am lucky in that I inherited my dad's tall, thin genes so I can wear just about anything. Still, my wardrobe is loaded with what I call my Audrey Hepburn little black dresses.
I wish I had the energy and drive you have with your writing and look forward to reading the results!!!
Farm Boss says he thinks they are red elderberries which he says is good for shooting out of a BB gun (or was when he was a kid) to depict blood. I guess you can make wine from them but they aren't good for eating. Along the creek they are prolific.
You would look good in a gunny sack, Rain. I am sure you will be the belle of the ball - er, reunion.
My 50th is in Spokane Aug 19 - 21 and we will be there. Pat bought a nice dress for it last spring and then another a week ago as she has gained 10 pounds since spring and doesn't like the way it fits now. I couldn't talk her into going to her 50th in Renton, WA a couple of years ago- said there was no one she has stayed in touch with and really no one that she particularly wanted to see again. I am looking forward to it.
I'm not much of a shopper, so I understand your desire to not want to go shopping for another six months. I have thought about shopping for clothes online, but I always like to try things on before I buy them. I did think about doing an LLBean shopping spree a while back, just ordering a bunch of shirts in different colors. Haven't done it yet.
I hope you post pics of what you decided to wear to the reunion. I like your wanting to wear your clothes and not your clothes wear you.
---Haven't been much of a shopper for the past few decades, but recently, our neighbor's eight year old grand daughter invited us to her 9th birthday. We have been friends of the family for a few years and so it was a special event. However, what do two old guys know about girl presents? T. had raised his sister's kids many years ago, but that was probably before Barbie dolls and we are so out-of-it kid-wise and the latest coolness! So we talked with the mother, who is a very sympatico sojourner and like us not into establishment symbols like Barbie. So off we went to Michael's Craft Store, and haunted the isles for neat stuff---nine year old girl stuff. Several mother daughter teams were shopping that day and helped us out. So we got several bags of inexpensive wonderful things that included jewelry making kits, colorful rocks (yep, a collection of neat rocks like Turquoise and agates), books, art kits, a solar garden light in the shape of a dragon fly, and a pair of pink tiger-spot flip flops. She loved all of the selections. The birthday was a success, with a huge cake made by T and a Lasagna dinner. There is a great photo of us, three oldsters sitting next to
grandma as the little one opened her presents
---- radiant as a new beginning. Your story has brought up memories of a particularly wonderful event. peace, m
It is funny how we see toys and what's okay or not. I go to Michael's and it all seems like junk to me but then I cheerfully buy Barbie dolls because they are what I'd have liked to play with as a child-- mini humans. Now if they were shaped more like real humans, I'd like that better but it's unlikely given the fear of porn being equated with nudity; so hence the Barbies are not realistic to avoid that happening. A shame in my view. I never btw liked baby dolls-- nor did my daughter or later granddaughter. I wanted my dolls to be pretend adult humans.
What I do though is try to satisfy the parental expectations when buying toys and hence would never buy a barbie for a little girl whose mother disapproved.
I grew up with sock monkeys. According to my Mom, I ate several of them before advancing to Cowboys and Indians! I don't know much about Barbies except that they seem to work for FOX News and cost more than my old 94 Cadi to run. :)
Its a nice post about cloth choosing, thanks for sharing...
Nice to have a little time where everything is working just fine on The Farm, I'm sure!
LOVE that picture of the Berries--in fact I like ALL three pictures!
It sounds like you found exactly what you need and what suits you, in the clothing department!
I hope you have fun going shopping for your Grandaughters Birthday!
