Not part of the plan

by Rain Trueax

Well, that last hero was pretty normal-- if being a billionaire is normal. How about a hero who has some unusual habits-- like shifting into an animal? A rock star who wants out of that life? A man with a love that he left due to his frightening secrets? What if his deceased mother was Navajo and that land is still in his blood? What if he has an enemy out to destroy him? Hey, why not!

Marshall (Marsh) Logan born 1984 on the Navajo Nation was sent to live with his bilagáana grandmother when his mother was killed in an accident. Growing up in Tucson and summers spent with his grandmother, Algoma, on the reservation, he finds himself not part of any one culture. What he knows is in high school, he fell in love with Torre Hemstreet.

Not able to believe in someone loving him, Marsh sees her with another boy and heads for the mountains. For the first time, his anger and upset lead to his shapeshifting into a bear. The shock he feels at the transformation is not eased by his fear it means he is a skinwalker, evil among the Navajo people. Unable to confront Torre with his jealousy and feelings, fearful of what he's becoming, he leaves Tucson upon graduation.

Music has always been his release. Once he's on his own, he begins to write and sing his own songs. From small venues, he is discovered by a manager with connections.  His successes grow with bestselling albums and sold-out concerts.

Although he stays away from Torre, he continues to support his Navajo grandmother, Algoma as well as his Tucson grandmother. Building a home for Algoma near her canyon hogan is all he can do as he fears if spent time near her, she'd recognize him for what he feared he was-- a skinwalker.

He has worked to control his shift into a bear, but when he returns to a cabin he bought in the Sierras, it's been destroyed. Does he have an enemy or is he losing his mind? As someone successful, he has stalkers who want to possess him. Some of them are spiritual.

Deciding he needs a fresh start, Marsh closes out his business affairs and returns to Tucson for one last series of performances to benefit those who helped him on his way up. His manager demands he get security, which Marsh resists. He has secrets. The last thing he wants is for the family of the only woman he's ever loved to be appointed his security team.

This is the fourth of the books about the Hemstreet sisters, witches all. The coming book will be the love story of their mother, who has been widowed many years. Time for her to find a new love... or is it?
