As I had said, I didn't watch election results last night. I just cannot stand to listen to pundits talk about it all night with their take on this or that, anything to keep themselves important in their own eyes at least. I went to bed before I knew how it'd all turn out. I will write more about it in the political blog-- after breakfast; but I will say this here. I woke up feeling a lot happier when I saw the results than I had gone to bed. :)
I hope for the best for our country and whether the leaders are Republicans or Democrats that people have chosen by a democratic process, I hope they will put the good of this nation ahead of their own party's partisan interests. We'll see how it works out.
More later in Rainy Day Things which will show up alongside here when it's there...

I did as you did and tried to avoid the whole thing. I went to bed early after learning that our ding-bat governor, Jan Brewer, won. That so depressed me that I woke up at 1 am and haven't been back to sleep since.
The good news in Arizona is that our two Democrat representatives
won by the skin of their teeth and that the Tea Party candidate lost be a large margin.
I predict gridlock for two years with nasty infighting.
Darlene I will gladly trade our new Dingbat governor for yours. I can't believe California is giving him another chance. I know Whitman was not a good choice, but not as bad as him.
I feel your pain -- and I'm scared as hell. We lost our good governor and my Congressman. I am sad.
Jerry Brown is Governor of Cali again . Whatever happened to Linda Marie Ronstadt? Cali deserves him !
I worry more about what happens in 2012 than the results this time. The Republicans can propose a lot, they can even do investigations that lead them to try and impeach Obama. They can concentrate on making him look bad but they might make themselves look bad now. IF Palin had not interfered in the elections by endorsing two women who were totally incompetent and actually embarrassments, they'd also be controlling the Senate in January. Mike Castle was popular in Delaware and likely would have won. Reid was not in Nevada and if they had put up anybody reasonable, he'd have lost. Thank you Palin; but you are too dumb or arrogant to admit what you did. You can bet the Republican party knows...
There are various ways to look at this election. I'm taking the long view on all these election results. It may be tough getting through these next two years but we won't lack for drama. Yes, there are some deadly serious issues. Where we go after these next two years will be very interesting. I've lived through too many years to be plunged into doom and gloom, but I'm not a Pollyanna, either. We can be passionate about our point of view, promote it, without damaging our health. :-) (Hadn't learned this when I was younger.)
As for Calif. candidates -- I didn't care for any of them, but I sure wasn't about to put someone in office who didn't even care enough to vote for 30 yrs, then after retiring decided to buy her way into government -- especially at such a high level. Such candidates might at least get their feet wet in lower level positions or city government first. I hardly think Whitman would have been any less prone to outside influences just because she used her own $141+million (more than any any U.S. State candidate ever) than other candidates who must rely on a variety of sources for campaign contributions.
I hope Calif. voters learned from Gov. Swartz. that just because someone has functioned well in private business doesn't mean their abilities transition into the governing arena, however well-intentioned they may be. I thoroughly resented a few years ago how he got promoted into that Calif. Gov. recall effort by my own U.S. House Rep. (20th richest Congressperson in the House) who had his own political agenda at a time this State could ill afford that election expense -- then they did exactly what the Gov. (he had his flaws, too) they replaced had proposed that they had said was so unacceptable.
I think more important than who has been elected Calif. Gov. are some of the measures we passed, especially #25 which will make it easier to get a budget through.
Amen Rain;
Bless them all!
I still am befuddled with Jerry Brown. I remember him from way back and my memories are not positive. California is boggled down with unions demands and the hole just keeps getting bigger.
You were smart, I stayed up til
1 AM.
Joared yes it will be easier to pass the budget but since we have a Democrat governor and a Democrat Assembly and Democrat Senate that cannot say no to any spending, they will just raise taxes to balance the budget. In a couple of years when you go to renew your car registration and it is $3000 you will realize that maybe 2/3 to pass the budget wasn't such a bad system after all.
Willie Brown and the state legislature drove Cali into the ground !
Hopefully you know what Willie Brown is not Jerry Brown and knew that when you voted...
Good one Rain. You made me smile with that one.
Willy was the one that owed the IRS $1 million and they settled for $100,000. Funny how politicians seem to have such a hard time paying taxes and then get out of it so easily. Kind of like Charlie Rangel. We have not heard a word in the news lately how his not reporting $75,000 in income and under reporting his net worth by $780,000 is going with the IRS.
I hear you Ingineer66 and I've considered that possibility. Something had to change -- Wilson and Schwart. couldn't resolve the budget and expenditure problem. I don't think any of the political parties has a lock on how to fix our state's problems. Something has to break Calif.'s gridlock and the national condition. If only all moderates from every political group would come together maybe reasonable action would prevail. :-)
I agree Joared. We seem to get extremist on both sides especially in Cali and they don't seem to represent most of us very well at all.
