2016

It's a new year and as I sort through my thoughts and plans for it, I often use quotes I find inspiring. Those shift with the years. If you have ones that are helping you this year, please share.

Man's main task is to give birth to himself.
Erich Fromm

Use your imagination not to scare yourself to death but
to inspire yourself to life.
 Adele Brookman

The longest journey is the journey inward.
 Dag Hammarskjold

I do believe it is possible to create, even without ever writing a word or painting a picture, by simply molding one's inner life. and that too is a deed.
Etty Hillesum

I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the Stern Fact, the Sad Self,
unrelenting, identical, that I fled from.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

But what is happiness except the simple harmony
between a man and the life he leads?
Albert Camus

  1. A very well done post. I was not familiar with most of these qoutes and they do speak to the self at this time of year. Great hawk shots as well.

  3. We think it's a Cooper's Hawk but when we were in Tucson, our bird book wasn't as good and we confused it with a Sharp-shin. This Stokes has much better images. Definitely getting one of these for the Tucson house as we do like to watch birds. We're doing that a lot right now as the sky is clear blue and the little birds are hitting the long thin birdseed tube as if they've been starved.

  4. Happy New Year, Rain. The Camus quote called to me.

  5. meaningful quotes. Fromm's resonates, and there is another quote that is similar about discovering one's essential self, or original face. Each year that passes seems to reveal new layers of consciousness -- if we are lucky. Best wishes to you and Farm Boss for a healthy and happy 2016.

  6. Thanks everyone. I think I admire most people who can reinvent themselves at any age, who do not allow themselves to be put in boxes. That's what I seek for myself-- the willingness to do that when the time is right and I know it's what I want. I've done it a few times and it's always been a good thing.
