Summertime and the living is easy-- well maybe not

This will likely sound silly but this is the time of the year I start thinking summer is going too fast. I know it barely began, but I look forward to these months the whole rest of the year. They last such a short time-- or so it seems at times.

Summer has been good to me so far. The weather is delightful, the nights still cool enough to sleep. My flowers are lush. The garden is starting to grow. I have always known how lucky I am to be living where I am close to nature and the animals on the farm. I get home from a trip somewhere, step out of the car with the creek below the house and feel like I live in a vacation-- if you ignore changing irrigation pipes, feeding sheep, unloading purchased hay, cutting thistles, and checking fences. This year I am again adding carrying squirrels to the back in the live trap.

We took back two and with the second I was thrilled to see a rabbit back there. We have had wild turkeys, pheasants, that runaway peacock, raccoons, beaver, but this is the first time I have seen a rabbit on the property. I wished I had my camera. Actually I wished I did for the little squirrel too-- by the time I was half way back. I wasn't about to turn around, but it had such a beautiful coat.

We canoed with our son, daughter by marriage, and their two kids one week-end at a small lake on the coast. We have another trip planned with the whole family for later in July. I am still hoping to get to Montana but time will tell on that one.

July 3rd we had a wonderful hiking trip with Parapluie and her husband. That trip was what will come in the next blog with photos. It's another of those times where I must have had several hundred and have to figure out how to winnow it down.
All photos are all from the week-end we canoed. Because I don't generally use photos of the kids, their partners, or my 4 grandchildren to protect their privacy; but because they are not identifiable, this is a rare exception. For me, it says it all. The boys had great fun canoeing and grandma very much enjoyed being able to share it with them. We took two canoes for the six of us. This one is theirs.

What a time of year when the days are long. Sure would like to make a habit of hiking this summer. Cute picture with you, the kids and the canoe.

I always think of solstice as the midway point of summer, so by now we are definitely on the downside. Yes, there's plenty more time for fun in the summertime sun, but the light will be changing.

Beautiful scenes of where you've been, and especially nice to see that eagle.

I know what you mean Rain....it already seems like summer is flying by to me too....even in early July.

I love the picture of you and your grandsons....wonderful. They are just adorable.

The little guy in the canoe is such a cutie and I'll bet the other grandson is too. What beautiful hair they have. (Just like Grandma).

The canoe trip is a memory to be stored and brought out again and again in future years.

I always envy you guys your cool summers. We have a sweaty roasting summer that gets over in June, to be followed by pouring monsoon rain till September. I guess the so called winter in Mumbai is like your summer... appears very short, and gets over way too fast...

It has been warm here-- for us-- with daytime temps in the mid 90s although it cooled back off this last week.

Tucson is a bit more like what you probably get in Mumbai. June there will be in the 100s and very humid. It is the only month I really don't like to be there. In July we get our own monsoon which won't have the level of rain you would get but the storms come through, cool things off some and have a lot of lightning, thunder, rain, wind, and flash flooding. It is an exciting season for me to be in Tucson, actually one of my favorites, but I don't often manage to get down there then partly because it's so wonderful up here where the temperatures can be 100 during the day or only 60.

What makes it tough at the farm to have it turn really hot (as in 100 or near that) for long is we don't have a/c, just a few fans to set different places, and if it doesn't cool off at night, then sleeping isn't so much fun. Usually the creek does cool us off nicely but not always.

This is the time of year when I can't wait for summer to be over - to get to the coolness of the fall!
